This trip started off on early Saturday morning at around 3 am. This time there are 2 cars with a total of 8 people heading to this place known for the filming of the sound of music and the birthplace of Mozart.
We reached Salzburg safely at around 945 am and checked into the YOHO hostel.
Thereafter, we started touring around the small town. We managed to catch the guided tour of the sound of music at 2pm.
This tour was the highlight of our tour. This 4 hour tour includes a comprehensive explanation of where , how and the details of the filming. We were allowed to roam at the designated 5 stops for awhile to admire and appreciate the beautiful surroundings.
The sound of music tour
Julie Andrews was the main actress of this wonderful movie. We started off in front of the Mirabell garden where the filming of the song Do-Re –Mi was filmed.
Our first stop- if I didn’t remember wrongly was the lake and palace where the kids fell down from the boat when they saw their father came back. Yes, they were clad in the curtains which Maria( as named in the movie) made for them. There after, we went to the 3 main alley area – where the gazebo was situated. This gazebo was where laisel and her bf the nazi courier guy were singing the 16 going to 17 song. This was also the place where maria and the father of the seven kids had their first kiss.
Near this place was the lane which maria skipped all the way in to the residence to become the governess of the 7 kids.
We went to the country side after this stop where there was the convent – which maria was supposedly to be a nun. There also we saw the mountains which maria sang almost all day, she was never on time for any events in the convent except of course for her meals. It was also the place where maria and the whole family ran to for refuge from the Nazis.
Our last stop was the wedding church where maria got married. The church was indeed beautiful from the inside. What was missing in the church was the iron gate featured in the movie – to show how near the convent was to the wedding church. Again, it was a Hollywood gimmick. Nearby , there was the residence of mozarts’ mother birthplace and where his sister stayed later on.
Our tour ended at around 6 pm as expected. From there, we visited the wonderful Mirabel garden which was really fantastic. We also visit Mozart birth place-Geburtshaus, the Mozart foot bridge, the residenzplatz, St.peterskirche courtyard, festival halls, the town itself and schloss mirabell as well as the fotress from afar.
Of course, there was the Salzburg festival at this time where one can watch different musical, arts , etc.
This my first very relaxing tour as we reached back the hostel at around 930pm after a buffet dinner- I was so full after the dinner.
The next day, we left for Milan- our home as everything was closed on Sunday.
Tomorrow is a holiday, yay!
